Sheabutter Cottage was founded in 2004 by Akua Wood, a Ghanaian native passionate about natural skincare and ethical sourcing.  Her journey began in 2002 when she launched Cioccolatina, a toiletry brand born from personal necessity.

"Moving to England, the cold, damp winters and harsh winds were a shock—especially to my skin."

Having studied in Ghana and Italy, Akua was used to gentler climates and superior moisturisers.  Struggling to find natural skincare products that truly nourished her skin, she turned to what she knew best - pure shea butter, a cherished ingredient from her homeland.

What started as a personal solution soon grew into Sheabutter Cottage, a multi-award-winning company dedicated to ethically sourced, high-quality and sustainable ingredients.
Staying true to our values, we work directly with farmers, producers, and community projects to ensure fairness, transparency, and premium quality in everything we offer.

OUR ETHICAL POLICY

At Sheabutter Cottage, our business is built on principles of sustainability, fairness, and community support:

Pure & Natural: No chemical additives—just wholesome, skin-loving ingredients.
Cruelty-Free: We never test on animals.
Fair Trade: We ensure no child labour in our supply chain and pay fair prices to farmers.
Honest Labelling: Transparency is at the heart of what we do.
Community Empowerment: We support farmers' co-operatives and invest in local communities.
Philanthropy Before Profit: Our mission is to create lasting impact, not just sales.

"Growing up in Ghana, I experienced firsthand the incredible benefits of shea butter.  It has been my passion ever since, and I’m honoured to share its natural goodness with you. Every purchase supports sustainable communities and ethical trade."Akua Wood
