Silky premium cocoa powder made from the finest 100% Ghanaian cocoa beans with a low-fat content. The cocoa powder is light in colour with a distinctive pleasant aroma/taste.
A great mood booster, cocoa contains a natural chemical component known as theobroma which helps to lift morals when taken internally.
As with all plant, cocoa contains flavonoid which is an antioxidant. Cocoa powder is great in face/hair masks for a little bit of TLC.
Unlike shea which grows wild, cocoa is planted during the raining season in Ghana. Provision of shade is very important for this to grow. The farmers work very hard in weeding the cocoa farm - this helps the cocoa to grow. More weeds = poor yield. The weeds tend to hide insects which attack the cocoa tree.

Introduced into Ghana many many years ago by Tetteh Quarshie, cocoa has become synonymous with Ghana. Ghanaian cocoa is much favoured because of its rich wonderful aroma due to the careful bean fermentation within 6 days of harvest. Cocoa goes through a 3 stage flowering process before growing into a full pod. Cocoa pods are normally attacked by capsids and the trees are normally sprayed to deter them. However, in order to maintain an organic cocoa farm, you should not use any chemical spray for at least 5 years. Spraying with neem extract/animal manure/cocoa husk solution is acceptable to protect the tree. Cocoa trees are grown under shade. This is normally 445 trees grown on 1 acre land with up to 8 shaded trees. Interesting enough, too many shaded trees can result in black cocoa pod.

Treat cocoa powder for hot drinks

Treated myself to this as I weaned myself off coffee! The cocoa is rich and has a smooth taste. I didn’t bake with it due to cost and to preserve nutrients:)
