Krobo glass beads are made by the Krobo ethnic group of Ghana. Used and broken glass bottles are pounded into fine powder. The powder is poured into clay moulds and baked at high temperature before being hand painted one at a time with intricate designs.
Some of these intricate designs are copies of old Venetian beads.
Recently, fused recycled beads are being made by the Krobos using seed beads and other similar Czech beads.
